Home is where the heart is!
What inspired you to love bats?
If you are like hundreds of thousands of kids and adults, you may have become inspired after seeing one of the animals that call the Bat Zone home.
When kids and adults have the chance to see bats live and up close, something magical happens. Suddenly, there is a real connection and an understanding that wildlife matters and it's worth protecting.
These animals are the true ambassadors for a healthier world.
In 2015, the animals helped inspire, in person, more than 250,000 people at the Bat Zone, programs at schools, the White House Easter Egg Roll, the annual Great Lakes Bat Festival and the exhibit BATS: Superheroes of the Night. That’s more than 250,000 people who now know that we need to protect bats and are now more likely to get involved in conservation.
We have seen the power of live animals to inspire people to put up bat houses, plant bat gardens, stop using pesticides, and teach their families that bats matter. We have seen people of all ages transform before our eyes into engaged and excited conservationists; and it all starts with the animals.
The Bat Zone is not only the animal’s home, it’s our home. It’s the headquarters for our national #SAVETHEBATS campaign. It's the center of the Organization for Bat Conservation. And it's the place where we set out to educate the world all about the wonders of bats.
This holiday season, the Bat Zone is getting an upgrade for the first time since 2002. This renovation is critical to the health of the animals, as it improves the building’s temperature control, air circulation, and ventilation. It also gives us an opportunity to engage visitors in a more meaningful way. It allows us to more effectively deliver the message that bats are worth protecting and to inspire visitors to take action when they go home even more.
By contributing today, no matter how small the amount, you’ll become an invaluable part of this mission. Additionally, our Board of Directors has pledged to match up to $10,000. That means your donation will go twice as far if you act now.
